Producer, composer and musician Nino Varon was born in Jerusalem in 1944. He grew up in Istanbul, mostly in Büyükada where his family spent their summers. Varon studied at Saint Michel French High School and started playing guitar at the age of 13. Upon his return from military service, he met Cem Karaca and Barış Manço, and shared the stage with Karaca for a long time.
In 1968, he started to work as a producer. He produced for many renowned Turkish musicians including Tanju Okan, Modern Folk Trio, Ajda Pekkan, and Kayahan. He was also known as ‘the person who introduced Nilüfer to the music world’. Varon also composed many songs. Together with Atilla Özdemiroğlu, Şanar Yurdatapan and Melike Demirağ, he produced the well-known ‘Arkadaş’ and wrote the lyrics of ‘Hasret’, which was recorded by Tanju Okan for his album Bir Zamanlar. In 1978, he produced Turkey’s first jazz album, Jazz Semai. He also released two albums, Ninovari in 2008 and Arka Pencere in 2010. In 2022, he released the singles ‘La Vie Continue’ and ‘La Femmes du Cinema Turc’ in collaboration with Uğur Karan.
Nino Varon lives and works in Büyükada, Istanbul.
