From the first recordings with his group Roxy Music in the 70s to this day, Bryan Ferry, one of the most innovative, distinctive singers to arrive on the pop scene, will be taking his place on stage once again at the Istanbul Jazz Festival. Bryan Ferry’s genius lies doubtlessly in his natural ability to blend the elegance of the French “chanson”, the poise of Frank Sinatra and Serge Gainsbourg’s charisma with a tough and edgy rocker attitude. His inimitable vocal brilliance mingles different musical styles and attitudes. The sheer emotional intensity in Ferry’s vocal style in his recording of the Bob Dylan classic, “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” back in 1973, can again be felt in his 2007 album, Dylanesque. In Dylanesque, he combines Bob Dylan’s clarity of thought with his own fresh, dramatic style. Ferry’s performance in 2000 was among the very best of the Istanbul Jazz Festival. Performing such Dylan classics as, “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door”, “Times They Are A-Changing” and “Positively 4th Street” at this year’s Festival, Ferry’s concert is one not to be missed.
