The biggest percussionist in Turkey, Okay Temiz, will be mingling Anatolian tunes with Indian melodies and the musical opulence of Northern jazz in the enchanting atmosphere of the Istanbul Archaeological Museum’s garden. Okay Temiz’s successful professional musical career began over 50 years ago. Temiz accomplished a striking musical synthesis, uniting western instruments and traditional Turkish instruments with his jazz group, Oriental Wind formed in 1974. The band was making ‘world music’ even before the term came into being. Presenting predominantly Turkish folk and Sufi music with Indian and African folk music in a luminous jazz format, the band had drawn the attention of European music-lovers. Okay Temiz will be joined on stage by one of the founding members of Oriental Wind, also renowned as one of the greatest pianists in Europe, the Swedish Bobo Stenson and saxophonist Lennart Aberg.
