WYNTON MARSALIS

The famous trompet player Wynton Marsalis is the artistic director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, who is the “Artist in Residence” of this year’s festival. Marsalis is also known as an internationally respected teacher and spokesman for music education. This session is not just aimed at jazz professionals and music students but also lovers of jazz music. The session will begin with a short speech by Marsalis on his works and music and continue with a conversation.

One of the most important jazz orchestras in the USA, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra has also dedicated itself to educational events for younger audiences and adults. These activities range from special concerts for students to jazz competitions. In this panel discussion to be held with the participation of the orchestra members, we will be listening to the story of jazz music from past to present.

For more than four decades, pianist and composer Joe Sample has been an integral, innovative and bestselling part of jazz history. A founding member of the influential jazz funk combo The Crusaders and a pioneer of contemporary jazz piano, Sample has also worked with musical greats ranging from Marvin Gaye to Eric Clapton. In this session, Sample will be taking us to a journey of his musical experiences.
