Selçuk Sun is one of the best musicians from Turkey. He first began to play jazz with Muvaffak “Maffy” Falay and has since worked with such acclaimed stars as Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell and Quincy Jones. Sun achieved second place after Nils Petersen, at the ‘Young Double Bass’ competition in Stockholm in 1961. He received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in last year’s İstanbul Jazz Festival. Selçuk Sun will be giving a performance of historical calibre, teaming with one of Norway’s most respected female musicians, Bodil Niska on the tenor saxophone. Niska is one of the few female artists to work in the tradition of musicians such as Ben Webster and Stan Getz.
