THOMAS ENHCO TRIO FEAT. CENK ERDOĞAN

Thomas Enco, who combines jazz, classical music, pop and world music in an energetic mix and has gained a large following with his albums, will perform with Cenk Erdoğan, a rising composer. Erdoğan has received critical acclaim with his album releases, as well as his compositions for films and theatre plays. He has a virtuosity in several instruments such as fretted and fretless guitar, e-bow and bowed tambur.

Breaking the scheme of a jazz trio while performing modern European jazz, Polish trio Stryjo will perform with Fakih Kademoğlu who incorporates traditional instruments into electroacoustic music. In their music, Stryjo go beyond the conventional linear storytelling that characterises the trio format and construct a joint narrative. Fakih Kademoğlu is known for his creative approach to traditional music and also the first musician in Turkey to record with shakuhachi, a Japanese bamboo flute as well as saron and suling, traditional Endonesian instruments.

TİMUÇİN ŞAHİN QUARTET FEAT ESCREET, RAINEY, BREWER

Fretless guitar virtuoso and composer Timuçin Şahin, who has garnered critical acclaim for his albums Bafa and Inherence, joins his forces with pianist and composer John Escreet, one of the most creative pianists and composers of New York’s jazz scene and whose trio has been described by New York Times as “a superb band.” They are accompanied by Matt Brewer on guitar and Tom Rainey on drums.

Critically-acclaimed singer and songwriter Şirin Soysal hosts Norwegian accordion master Frode Haltli. Sosyal’s first album Bir Şeyler Var was received well by the critics. Her second album stands out with its influences of art rock and art pop. Sosyal and her band were the first musicians in Turkey to be invited to perform in the Ertegün Jazz Series. Exploring the furthest sonic regions of his instrument, Frode Haltlı has influenced a number of Scandinavian musicians with his albums and broad repertory of classical works.

Trombonist and pianist Elvan Aracı, one of the most important musicians of Turkey’s jazz scene, will play his arrangements with Swedish double bass player Per-Ola Gadd. Jazz vocalist Dilek Sert Erdoğan, who was praised for her 2013 album Moments, will also join the duo for the second part of the concert. She will be accompanied by drummer Ferit Odman and guitarist Önder Focan.

Talented Swiss pianist Rusconi meets composer Erdem Helvacıoğlu, who primarily works in the electroacoustic genre. Rusconi features Stefan Rusconi on piano, Fabian Gisler on double bass and Claudio Strüby on drums. For Rusconi, jazz music is a playground. Their live appearances, as well the visualisation of their music stand out. The band won the Echo Award For Live Act Of The Year in 2013. Erdem Helvacıoğlu is one of the unique musicians in Turkey whose experimental work has received numerous awards. His album A Walk Through the Bazaar was judged “outstanding” by Wire Magazine.
