“A CHILDLIKE DAY” ORAN ETKİN TIMBALOOLOO

This year, the festival puts a smile on children’s faces! Come join us for a Saturday morning in which children will not only discover their musical talents with concerts and workshops, but also have loads of fun!

ORAN ETKİN TİMBALOOLOO
15:00-16:00, Çatı Stage

Children will learn while having fun in Oran Etkin Timbalooloo, a musical education programme from the world-renowned clarinet virtuoso and master of improvisation, Oran Etkin. Oran Etkin will be accompanied by Deniz Taşar’s vocals, Riccardo Marenghi on drums, Ertan Şahin on tuba and Barış Mert Peker on the piano. Children will admire Oran Etkin, whose unique talent to communicate with children is as good and genuine as that of the clarinet.

* Children between the ages of 3-11 can attend.

HAKAN BAŞAR TRIO
16:30-17:00, Çatı Sahnesi

A 12 year old pianist of extraordinary talent, Hakan Başar (Jr) delivered his first concert in the 5th Pera Music Festival in 2015 and improved his musical potential at a faster pace each day. He recorded his first sample album at MIAM (Istanbul Technical University Center for Advanced Studies in Music) last December. He drew even more attention this year with his participation in the Young Jazz competition of the festival.

MUSIC FOR PEACE COPPER WIND ENSEMBLE
16:05-16:25 and 17:30-18:00, Bomontiada Yard

Founded by the instructor of trombone and chamber music of the Music for Peace Foundation Seçkin Özmutlu, Music for Peace Copper Wind Ensemble comprises 30 students on trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba and percussion. Having seamlessly continued its concerts from the day it was established onwards, the ensemble keeps on transfering its boundless energy to its audiences in various venues and with a repertoire consisting of classical, latin, baroque and ethnic pieces.

WORKSHOP: BLINKING POSTCARDS
16:30-17:20, ATÖLYE

Children will first create a robot design using traditional painting techniques with various pencils on paper. Later they will turn this design into a robotic figure, a flashing work with the help of batteries and led lights. Meanwhile, participants will acquire knowledge on energy, sources of energy, conductivity and basic artistic principles. The resulting work will be given to the participants as presents.

* Capacity is limited to 15 children between the ages of 5-7.

ATÖLYE: SOLO JAZZ AND CHARLESTON JAZZ WORKSHOP
17:40-18:30, ALT Performance Space

This workshop by the instructors of Atölye İstanbul Lindy Hoppers will introduce to children the Charleston jazz steps of the 20’s, which unites musicality and rhythm sensibility, and encourages relaxed movements in a fun way.

* Capacity is limited to 30 children between the ages of 4-10.

WORKSHOP WITH THE MUSIC FOR PEACE COPPER WIND ENSEMBLE
16:40-17:25, ALT Performance Space

The Music for Peace Foundation’s students who are at the same time the members of the ensemble will introduce trumpet, trombone, French horn, tuba and some percussion instruments to 25 children who will be randomly picked among the audience. Children will have the opportunity to engage with the instruments.

* Capacity is limited to 25 children between the ages of 7-11.

Important Notes

The concert of the Music for Peace Copper Wind Ensemble is free of charge and open to everyone. Tickets need to be presented for entrance into the concerts of Oran Etkin Timbalooloo and Hakan Başar Trio. Those who will participate in the other three workshops are required make a reservation via rezervasyon@iksv.org.
