Following a nomination for the 2013 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award and included in the coveted BBC Sound of 2013 longlist, Laura Mvula’s debut album Sing to the Moon was released on March 2013. Described as “the voice of 2013”, the classically trained, singer-songwriter fuses orchestral soul with velvet harmonies and emotional vocals, giving nods to Nina Simone and Björk amongst others. The 26-year-old is a unique collision of her Caribbean background and formal music. Before Mvula, Jacob Collier will perform, heralded by The Guardian as “jazz music’s new messiah”.
