A melodic “Ointment" formulated with hope and melancholy
Melike Şahin, a songwriter and musician known for her original style on the local scene, has performed over 250 concerts all around the world with BaBa ZuLa for many years. She began working solo in 2017. She sang for Tony Gatlif's film Djam, delivering an unforgettable concert at the Cannes Film Festival before the film's world premiere. Şahin gained further acclaim with her successive singles “Deli Kan”, “Sevmek Suçsa Suçluyum”, “Tutuşmuş Beraber”, “Kimin Izdırabı”, “Kara Orman” and announced her eagerly awaited album Merhem (Ointment) last February. As is her signature in her songs, she invites to seek out hope while exploring melancholy. In an interview, she explains this surprising combination of opposites: “I'm usually very cheerful. But I wouldn't have been as cheerful now if I hadn't written those songs.”
