İzzet Öz was born on 18 November, 1947, in Ankara. After completing his education at Deneme High School and the School of Economic Sciences in Ankara, he embarked on a long and distinguished career in the media and arts world.
His broadcasting career began in 1967 at TRT Ankara Radio and continued with his work at TRT Ankara and Istanbul Television. Between 1983 and 1993, he served as an art consultant for Hürriyet newspaper. He later worked as a general coordinator, cultural director, and editor-in-chief at various media organisations. Additionally, he shared his experiences with younger generations as a lecturer at several universities.
He produced and hosted numerous radio and television programmes such as Dünyanın Dört Bucağından, Metronom, İzzet Öz Sizlerle, Diskovizyon, Sihirli Lamba, Süpervizyon, Pop Türk, and Frekans. Through these programmes, he created a significant platform for various music genres in Türkiye, particularly jazz. His groundbreaking show Teleskop, which combined music with different artistic disciplines, was first aired in 1982. With this programme, he introduced Turkish audiences to renowned jazz artists such as Ray Charles, Alphonse Mouzon, Jean-Luc Ponty, Tina Turner, Jacques Loussier, Weather Report, The Alan Parsons Project, Okay Temiz, Oregon, Marianne Faithfull, and Egberto Gismonti.
He also hosted numerous special programmes dedicated to legendary Turkish artists such as Orhan Boran, Halit Kıvanç, Müzeyyen Senar, Aşık Veysel, Şehrazat, Sezen Aksu, Onno Tunç, Ali Kocatepe, MFÖ, Fikret Kızılok, Cem Karaca, and Barış Manço.
In addition to his broadcasting work, he directed hundreds of commercials for Hürriyet newspaper and worked on video direction and stage productions for major musicals and theatre performances. He played a key role in promotional campaigns for newly established TV channels. In 1975, he directed the music videos for Nilüfer’s Heyecanlı and Şenay Yüzbaşıoğlu’s Sev Yeter, making him one of Türkiye’s first music video directors.
On the 35th anniversary of his career, he released The İzzet Öz Project album. A decade after initially producing an album in honor of Aşık Veysel’s 110th birthday, he reintroduced it to the music world under the title Yeniden Aşık Veysel. In November 2015, he released the album 02.02.1973-Ankara, Cem Karaca-Moğollar.
Since 2016, he has been hosting broadcasts on Zet Zet Radio.
