Joshua Redman, one of the greatest saxophonists alive today with his timeless and innovative music, will take the stage at the 31st Istanbul Jazz Festival.

Joshua Redman has never lost his desire to explore every aspect of jazz. Since releasing his self-titled first album, Joshua Redman, in 1993, he has been continuously producing and exploring. With each album and discovery, Redman has surpassed himself, raising the bar higher each time. He has collaborated with and drawn inspiration from different musicians, formed new ensembles. In 2015, while playing with the band they named an album after, The Bad Plus, he rediscovered his musical heritage: Founding the SFJAZZ Collective was described by The New York Times as a “eureka moment.” With his 2018 album, Still Dreaming, he showed that he never gave up dreaming and has never detached himself from the past. Joshua Redman has received 11 Grammy Award nominations for his timeless yet nostalgia-free music that envelopes the past and the present.

In his latest album, where are we, released in 2023, Redman collaborated with a vocalist and wrote lyrics for the first time. “Never in my life have I talked so much art through text!” says Redman of his songs, which are brought to life by the intimate and fragile voice of Gabrielle Cavassa.

Joshua Redman, along with his recent collaborators, vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa, pianist Paul Cornish, bassist Philip Norris, and drummer Nazir Ebo, sets the new standard for jazz at the 31st Istanbul Jazz Festival.
