One of the most captivating pianists of recent years, Grégory Privat, will perform songs from his album Phoenix at the 32nd Istanbul Jazz Festival in a special concert featuring guest trumpeter Tolga Bilgin.

Gréegory Privat discovered his passion for music at a very young age, thanks to his father, José Privat, the pianist of the Caribbean music group Malavoi. Over the years, he crossed paths with musicians such as Jacques Schwarz-Bart, Stéphane Belmondo, Guillaume Perret, and Sonny Troupé. At 27, he released his highly praised debut album Ki Koté, featuring his own compositions. His second album, Tales of Cyparis, brought him further recognition in the jazz scene, followed by Luminescence, which earned him a nomination in the ‘Discovery of the Year’ category at the Victoires du Jazz. In 2022, he released his first solo album, Yonn, an introspective work shaped during the pandemic, where he narrated an inner journey through his voice and piano.

With each album, Privat successfully reimagines tradition for the future, creating entirely new musical universes. His latest album, Phoenix, is no exception. Featuring dominant synths in a futuristic introduction, shifting and dynamic rhythms, the evident influence of his classical music training, and layered vocals, Phoenix was honoured with the Django Reinhardt Award in 2024.

Joining Privat on stage, Tolga Bilgin is one of Türkiye’s esteemed trumpet players, recognised for his achievements in both jazz and classical music. Having performed with major orchestras at home and abroad, Bilgin has shared the stage with renowned artists such as Fatih Erkoç, İmer Demirer, Randy Brecker, Furio Di Castri, Mauro Battisti, Stefano Risso, Eric Reed, Giampaolo Casati, and Flavio Boltro. Now, he steps onto the stage as a special guest for Grégory Privat’s performance.
