The Gutiérrez Brothers will take the stage at the 32nd Istanbul Jazz Festival for their first major concert in Türkiye, bringing their signature blend of Latin guitar sounds and spiritual music that transport audiences from dusty deserts to interstellar journeys.

Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez have remained dedicated to Latin American music and their classical guitars since hearing their grandfather play Julio Jaramillo’s recordings for the first time. They drew inspiration from salsa, milonga, and cumbia, as well as music from the ‘50s to the ‘80s.

Their debut album 8 Años (2017) aptly labelled their instrumental Western style as ‘desert music’. The adventure of two classical guitars, dueling across desolate desert landscapes, continued with El Camino De Mi Alma (2018) and Hoy Como Ayer (2019). They conquered the world music scene, sold countless albums, and later held a concert in Mexico, which sparked the creation of their album Hijos del Sol (2020). What they achieved with just two guitars – no vocals, no lyrics – was no small feat. Though they didn’t sing, their melodies spoke volumes.

They teamed up with Dan Auerbach, the founder of The Black Keys, for their album El Bueno Y El Mano, marking a turning point in the evolution of their sound. Their latest album Sonido Cósmico (2024) was the second step. Staying true to their Latin American heritage, they ventured beyond the desert  to explore the cosmos. With percussion, strings, and even Mellotron, Sonido Cósmico shined with what Rolling Stone described as ‘hallucinogenic energy’, and was performed this summer at Coachella.

As pioneers in the revival of Latin guitar-heavy music, Hermanos Gutiérrez now bring their energising sound to the 32nd Istanbul Jazz Festival, marking their first major concert in Türkiye.
