> DETAIL INFOTwo leading figures of contemporary jazz, Joe Lovano and Antonio Faraò, meet at the 33rd Istanbul Jazz Festival.
Renowned for their masterful use of jazz’s boundless capacity for musical dialogue, these two exceptional artists come to Istanbul with their latest project‘Joe Lovano & Antonio Faraò: Explorations’. Their dynamic dialogue is enriched by bassist Ira Coleman, known for his collaborations with Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams, and Dee Dee Bridgewater, and by drummer Jonathan Blake, one of the most compelling voices of today’s jazz scene.
Hailed as a ‘titan of the tenor saxophone’ and a ‘Blue Note icon’, Joe Lovano is among the most influential jazz musicians of our time. His fearless pursuit of new forms of expression has established him as one of the world’s foremost saxophonists. A Grammy Award, numerous international honours, an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music, a long-standing teaching role at Juilliard, and dozens of albums as a leader and collaborator mark only part of his remarkable career. Above all, Lovano has achieved one of jazz’s rarest distinctions: a sound instantly recognizable from the very first note.
With his commanding technique, high-energy style, and imaginative approach, Antonio Faraò stands out as one of the leading jazz pianists of his generation. Whether performing solo or engaging in collective improvisation, he fully explores the expressive potential of musical interplay. On his album Eklektik, Faraò brought together artists such as Snoop Dogg, Marcus Miller, and Lenny White. Invited by Herbie Hancock, he has appeared multiple times at UNESCO’s International Jazz Dayglobal concerts and has shared the stage with jazz greats including Branford Marsalis, Kurt Elling, Wayne Shorter, Marcus Miller, Al Jarreau, and Richard Bona.
