Led Zeppelin’s legendary vocalist and frontman, Robert Plant, will take the stage at the 33rd Istanbul Jazz Festival with his acclaimed new band, Saving Grace.
For nearly six decades, Robert Plant has continued to surprise both himself and his audiences. The iconic ‘Golden God’ and frontman of Led Zeppelin – the band that emerged in the 1970s with a genre-defying sound, dominated the charts for years, left an indelible mark on music history, and evolved into a cultural phenomenon – has continued to create distinctive musical combinations since the band’s dissolution.
His post-Zeppelin journey includes Walking Into Clarksdale (1998) with Jimmy Page; explorations of blues, folk, and classic rock with Strange Sensation in the early 2000s; the five-time Grammy-winning Raising Sand (2007) with Alison Krauss; and a return to folk roots with Band of Joy in 2010. Reuniting with Krauss once more in 2021 for Raise The Roof, he earned further Grammy nominations. Spanning hard rock, new wave, blues, Americana, psychedelia, and world music, Plant’s latest chapter since 2019 brings him back to folk with Saving Grace.
With Saving Grace, Robert Plant brings together an ensemble of exceptional musicians. Formed during the global pandemic, the band came together through a shared joy of making music – revisiting roots, uncovering forgotten songs, and creating what the band describes as ‘a songbook for the lost and found.’ Their self-titled album Saving Grace moves gracefully through folk, country, blues, and gospel, while the voices of Suzi Dian and Robert Plant weave together in harmony. Drawing from the misty musical heritage of Britain and subtly echoing the spirit of Led Zeppelin, Saving Grace stands as a powerful and contemporary expression of roots music – now meeting Istanbul under the festival lights.
