Rising soul stars Thee Sacred Souls made waves with ‘Can I Call You Rose?’ and are now coming to Istanbul for the 33rd Istanbul Jazz Festival.

Thee Sacred Souls’ signature sound draws from analog recording, the spirit of 1960s soul, groove-led tempos, gentle Latin rhythms, a touch of Los Ángeles Negros, a breeze of ’70s Spanish soul, and echoes of 1930s Delta blues. Guided by deeply felt, soul-stirring lyrics, the San Diego–based trio has helped a new generation fall in love with the music of the 1960s and ’70s. Thee Sacred Souls first took shape when bassist Alex Garcia and drummer Sal Samano improvising together, sent Josh Lane an Instagram message inviting him to join on vocals. At their very first meeting, as Lane listened to the duo play, he began improvising the words to ‘Can I Call You Rose?’. By only their second live performance, they caught the attention of Gabe Roth, who offered them studio time after catching their live set.

Following the release of ‘Can I Call You Rose?’ as a single in 2020, the band unveiled ‘Give Us Justice’, named Song of the Year 2020 by Eric Burton for Rolling Stone. 2021 saw the million-stream favorite ‘Will I See You Again?’, while 2022 marked the release of their self-titled debut album. Though releasing a fully formed debut inevitably raised expectations, Thee Sacred Souls more than met the challenge with Got a Story to Tell. Over the past seven years, they’ve toured relentlessly, lit up Coachella, shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, and drew praise from Beyoncé. They officially kicked off the summer of 2025 with their single ‘We Don’t Have To Be Alone’.

For your first date with Thee Sacred Souls in Türkiye, don’t forget to bring a rose—and be ready for the possibility that Josh Lane might challenge Harbiye’s seated order, get you on your feet and lose himself among the crowd.

Groove, reverb, twang: LA LOM to open the night

Los Angeles League of Musicians, known as LA LOM, bring together the rhythmic and melodic diversity of a truly cosmopolitan city. The instrumental trio of guitarist Zac Sokolow, bassist Jake Faulkner, and percussionist Nicholas Baker first came together to play at the historic Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Boulevard. What began with Latin music from the 1930s and ’40s soon expanded to include soul ballads of the 1960s. Romantic boleros, Peruvian chicha, Bakersfield country and cumbia sonidera followed, gradually shaping a world of sound entirely their own. The project quickly grew beyond those early nights, reaching larger audiences and followed by more releases. Blending the spirit and pulse of Los Angeles with sharp, twang-driven guitar tones, LA LOM’s world of sound is undeniably romantic. Rather than transporting the audience back in time, it brings the past vividly into the present.
